How Yelp data behaves#
Not recommended reviews #
Reviews that Yelp’s software doesn’t recommend are collected too and flagged as hidden, so you see every review left on the listing.
Reviews in every language #
Yelp lists reviews per language. Zembra collects each language and adds the translation of reviews not written in English. Earlier versions of edited reviews are returned as edits.
Review count differs from Yelp #
Yelp hides some reviews (“not recommended”) and removes others, so its visible count can be lower than the number of reviews Zembra has collected over time. One listing had 50 reviews in Zembra while Yelp showed 33. Reviews Zembra collected that were later hidden or removed by Yelp or their authors can look like duplicates or extras. With Full monitoring, Zembra rescans the whole listing and marks those reviews as deleted. With Basic and Regular monitoring, Zembra mainly collects new reviews and catches these changes on a best-effort basis. If you need counts that match Yelp exactly, use Full monitoring or trigger a full reviews fetch.
