Good to know
How Google data behaves#
Original text and translation #
Google translates reviews automatically. Zembra returns the original text along with Google’s translation.
Listings with more than 2,000 reviews #
Google may start returning errors, on its own site and through its official API alike, once you go beyond about 2,000 reviews. Older reviews sit in cold storage, and Google’s servers must be warmed up to serve them, which takes a while and can eventually fail.
Zembra makes a best effort to collect up to 200,000 reviews per listing, but full success isn’t guaranteed beyond 65,000 reviews.
A review newer than its reply #
Google may show a review with a date more recent than the business’s reply to it. This happens when the author interacts with the review without any visible change: Google then bumps it to the top of the list with a newer date.
Zembra returns both the original timestamp and the timestamp of the last edit. To match what Google shows, display the edit timestamp.
Google sometimes reports more reviews than it displays #
The total review count Google shows can be slightly higher than the number of reviews it actually lists. For example, Google’s counter reported 1017 while the list visible to users had 1016 reviews. Zembra matches the reviews users can actually see, so the native count and the number of reviews returned can differ by a few. Small, stable differences on Google are usually this. A large gap is not, and you can fix it by triggering a full reviews fetch or contacting support.
Google can hide reviews and review counts from logged-out visitors #
In December 2025 Google started rolling out changes that hide public reviews, and the total review count, from visitors who are not logged in. The rollout did not reach all users and regions at the same pace, so an incognito browser and a logged-in session can show different things. Zembra adapted its collection and continues to serve Google reviews and review counts. If a Google page looks empty to you in a private window, that does not mean the reviews are gone.
Reviews removed by Google before Zembra first sees them are not available #
Zembra can only return a review that was public when it was collected. If Google flags or removes a review after Zembra has collected it, the review is marked as deleted but still returned in the data, so you keep a record of it. If Google removed it before Zembra’s first collection, Zembra never sees it and cannot return it.
